Committee Elections: Frequently Asked Questions

BioMADE is excited to announce that Governance Committee elections will be held throughout the summer of 2025, and included below are frequently asked questions about BioMADE Committees and the election process.

  • BioMADE Committees are an excellent opportunity to network in the industry, meet like-minded colleagues, and develop professionally. BioMADE Committees are made up of industry stakeholders, academic institutions, nonprofits, government partners and BioMADE Program staff.   

    Participation on a Committee is one of the best ways to influence the direction of BioMADE. Committee members will guide future iterations of the Roadmaps and Blueprints that inform Project Calls and the overall direction of BioMADE.  

    BioMADE’s Governance Committees include the Leadership Council, Technical, Education and Workforce Development and 4S Committees.  

  • Members in eligible tiers are able to participate in a BioMADE Committee through either a Dedicated Committee seat and/or a Committee Election.

    Members are welcomed to join a BioMADE subcommittee at any time throughout the year and can find more information on BioMADE’s subcommittees on this page or by contacting committees@biomade.org.

  • Dedicated Committee Seats are a distinct member benefit that provide organizations with the ability to have consistent representation and share their expertise on a Committee.  

    Dedicated Seats are filled by an individual appointed by a member organization and contribute to the Committee’s decision-making process in alignment with its mission and objectives. 

    Dedicated Seats can be appointed at any time and an organization’s Dedicated Seat representative can coordination with other colleagues to serve as a proxy for any Committee meetings they are unable to attend. Each membership tiers Elected and Dedicated seats can be found under “How do members get involved with a BioMADE Committee”.

  • Below are the steps that are taken to successfully complete a committee election cycle. 

    1. Nomination - BioMADE Member organizations confirm committee appointments and/or supply nominees. 

      a. Nominees are required to submit a brief biography. 

    2. Voting – BioMADE member organizations will vote within their BioMADE tier. A voting guide will be provided. 

    3. New Term Starts – Following the vote tally, current and incoming committee members will be notified, and the new term will begin shortly thereafter.  

    • June 2, 2025-June 23, 2025: Nomination submission period 

    • July 14-August 4, 2025: Voting period 

    • Fall 2025: New term starts 

  • Members contribute to the development of organizational blueprints and roadmaps that impact public and private funding investments and help guide projects that strategically align with the blueprint or roadmaps vision and objectives. Meetings are typically on a monthly or quarterly basis, with the estimated time commitment of 1-3 hours per month. 

  • Yes, you can track Committee participation against member in-kind dues. Please contact your BioMADE Member Point of Contact for more specific information for your organization.  

  • An active BioMADE member organization in good standing may be eligible to vote.  

  • We recommend coordinating with your organization’s BioMADE Member Point of Contact. If you are unsure who your BioMADE Member Point of Contact is, please reach out to committees@biomade.org

  • You will be asked to supply a summary biography of your organization and job role. There are no other commitments asked of nominees. Please see “What is the commitment to participate on a committee?” for more information about committee efforts for active committee members.  

  • An individual that is an employee of an active BioMADE Member organization in good standing may be eligible. Students are not eligible to participate in committees or subcommittees at this time.  

  • BioMADE will be reaching out to each organization’s BioMADE Membership Point of Contact as well as additional colleagues designated as potential committee contacts of interest to provide updates and all relevant information throughout the committee process.  

    All of these contacts will be notified of their elected representatives by email in the Fall of 2025. This information will also be shared through the BioMADE Member Portal, as well as in the Member Newsletter.
