Eelco Blum | Vice President, Pilot Plant Network Business

Eelco Blum is the Vice President of Pilot Plant Network (PPN) Business at BioMADE. Eelco brings over 25 years of leadership in biobased ingredients, consumer products, materials, and food, with a proven track record in strategy, business development, product line leadership, and commercialization. He spent more than a decade at Cargill in bioindustrial and food ingredients roles across the Netherlands, the UK, South Africa, Belgium, and the United States. He later led product line development for new algae-based oils and fats at Solazyme and guided commercialization and licensing of renewable chemistries as Managing Director at Avantium. Most recently, he advised biotechnology companies throughout North America.

At BioMADE, Eelco oversees business development for the Pilot Plant Network and works to establish the shared infrastructure and supply chains needed to scale emerging biotechnologies into full-scale domestic bioindustrial production. BioMADE’s Pilot Plant Network (PPN) is building three pilot- and demonstration-scale facilities in California, Iowa, and Minnesota to help companies close the so-called ‘valley of death’ between lab-scale proof of concept and commercial manufacturing.
