BioMADE at SynBioBeta 2025: The Global Synthetic Biology Conference
Join BioMADE at SynBioBeta this year for two exciting sessions! Read on for session information:
Biology Without Borders: Technical and Ethical Considerations for Biocontainment | Wednesday, 5/7 | 3:30 PM-4:15 PM
Join BioMADE’s Senior Technical Fellow, Steve Evans, to learn about how the importance of biocontainment of engineered microbes for environmental release (EMERs) is often discussed, but why and when is biocontainment really needed? This session will include short talks on our technical capabilities and needs for containing EMERs, the infrastructure needed and available for testing and measuring the efficacy of biocontainment systems, obstacles and potential solutions for achieving regulatory clarity, and the ethical, legal, and social implications on different publics of decisions to use or not use EMERs.
Applied AI for Biomanufacturing: Challenges, Opportunities, and Real-World Impact | Thursday, 5/8 | 1:30 PM-2:15 PM
Artificial intelligence is already reshaping biomanufacturing, challenging long-standing practices and driving new levels of productivity. But what does this transformation look like in practice? This session offers a candid, hype-free discussion on the real-world impact of AI in biomanufacturing today. Industry experts will explore how AI is accelerating production, reducing costs, and enabling rapid scale-up—while also addressing the technical, organizational, and regulatory barriers that remain. Hosted by CTO and co-founder, Dr. Ouwei Wang, at SynBioBeta, and joined by leaders Tim Dobbs of BioMADE, Krish W. Ramadurai of AIX Ventures, and moderator Elliot Hershberg, this panel will cut through the hype and deliver honest insights from the front lines of AI applied to biomanufacturing. Expect spicy takes, practical case studies, learnings from real-world experience, and a clear-eyed discussion on what’s working - and what isn’t - as AI and ML reshape the bioeconomy.
