BioMADE Announces Genya Dana as New Chief Strategy and Bioeconomic Development Officer 

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN/EMERYVILLE, CA, September 13, 2023 – BioMADE is pleased to welcome Dr. Genya Dana as its new Chief Strategy and Bioeconomic Development Officer. 

At BioMADE, Dana will be responsible for creating, communicating, executing, and sustaining BioMADE’s strategic and bioeconomic development initiatives to advance the U.S. bioeconomy. She will drive the development and implementation of strategic plans; identify, prioritize, and oversee partnerships with public and private sector stakeholders; create strategic business partnerships to advance BioMADE programs, infrastructure, and other initiatives; foster BioMADE member engagement and growth; and actively engage with U.S. and global stakeholders across government and industry. 

Dana’s expertise centers on working with governments and executive leaders to set the strategic direction for new initiatives that drive cutting-edge science and technology into complex systems. Prior to joining BioMADE, she served as Chief Health Strategy Officer at a young genomics biotech company in Menlo Park, CA, where she built partnerships that sourced the investment, research assets, and technology partners to enable the company to grow and pivot into new commercial areas.  

Dana also spent five years at the Swiss-based World Economic Forum where she drove successful business development initiatives, cultivated partnerships, served as a subject matter expert, and built multi-stakeholder programs. She also served as a scientific advisor on emerging technologies to diplomats and foreign policy officials at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., while negotiating agreements on science, technology, and innovation in multi-lateral organizations like the United Nations. She has degrees in biology, public policy, and risk assessment, and conducted her PhD research in South Africa. 

Dana joins BioMADE’s executive team, joining Douglas Friedman, Chief Executive Officer; Melanie Tomczak, Head of Programs and Chief Technology Officer; Diane Pierotti, Chief Financial and Operating Officer; and Jayne Laiprasert, General Counsel.
